This weekend Minneapolis celebrated Gay Pride. We didn’t get to any of the festivities, but not for lack of support for the GLBT community and all Minneapolitans. We had a busy weekend with lots of social commitments- it was wonderful to catch up with the Putnams, Gramins, Albertsons, and work friends.
Honestly, it has been a stressful month- we’re working toward buying a home, moving, going to the doctor lots for tests for the baby, and working full time. Both Kevin and I are tapped physically and emotionally. (Evidence- we seem to nap whenever the opportunity presents itself.) I ran into a friend Saturday morning and his response to all this news, “You’re all grown up! A husband, a house, a baby!”
I love being married. I am ecstatic about owning a house. And starting a family is a dream come true. None came easy, but I’m aware at how these are all far more difficult for people who are not in heterosexual relationships.
To be clear, we believe that all couples deserve the right to marry, share their lives and homes and families. When we vote in the upcoming election: “Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to provide that only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as marriage in Minnesota?” We are voting a resounding No.
Happy Pride, Minnesota!
